Fireblock : Fire Retardant

Fireblock Agri

FIREBLOCK Agri is a compound of Potassium polyacrylate, starches AND binding agents, which is used to protect from, and extinguish, Class A fires (i.e. ordinary solid combustibles such as paper, wood, cloth and some plastics).
NOT FOR USE ON ELECTRICAL OR CHEMICAL FIRES.

FIREBLOCK Agri is not chemical in composition, and is non-toxic and 100% biodegradable, ensuring that it is environmentally friendly.

FIREBLOCK Agri is supplied in powder form (100 g sachets and 1,25 kg resealable bags). The powder is then mixed with water as per the instructions on the packaging, until a reaction occurs, and a consistency similar to a gel-like substance is achieved.

FIREBLOCK Agri can provide thermal protection from fire for extended periods.

Thereafter, FIREBLOCK Agri is sprayed over the target area (which is either an area that needs protection from an approaching fire, or an area that is currently burning). Numerous layers of FIREBLOCK Agri are formed over the area. In order for the heat to penetrate the FIREBLOCK-covered area, it has to burn off layer after layer of protective gel. The thicker the surface area is sprayed, the more protection FIREBLOCK Agri supplies. General coverage achieved, is 12-15 m2 per litre of mixed FIREBLOCK Agri.

FIREBLOCK Agri can provide thermal protection from fire for extended periods, depending on fire conditions and thickness sprayed. The period of protection can range from 6-36 hours, depending the thickness sprayed, as well as environmental factors like sunshine and rain.

When mixed as per instructions, FIREBLOCK Agri creates a gel that completely repels flaming embers and aids in protecting structures and property from flames of bush/veld and wildfires.

The application of FIREBLOCK Agri is most successful when used preventatively; i.e. when sprayed on a fire break or other area before a fire approaches the area (view video and instructions). However, it can also be sprayed directly on the fire to stop the fire’s spread, and extinguishing the existing fire.

Uses and Application

  • Safely creates firebreaks.
  • Spray directly on uncontrolled fires to extinguish them.
  • Protects livestock, assets and houses by spraying on houses, barns, and feed.
  • Stops embers from reigniting after a period of time.
  • Back packs, fire tankers and irrigation systems.

Presentation

FIREBLOCK Agri is offered in two sizes: 100 g and 1,25 kg.

The 100 g sachet is a once-off-use sachet which is mixed with 20 l of water. This volume would fit into most standard 18–20 l fire backpacks.

100g sachet: Instructions for use

  1. Tear sachet.
  2. Sprinkle the contents into 20 l of water.
  3. Wait for 1 minute.
  4. Stir. Best results are achieved after 4 minutes.
  5. Use as required.

If you use a high pressure bakkie unit or a back pack with a fine sieve – it is recommended that you premix your solution before filling these units.

NB: Mixing instructions must be followed precisely, for optimal effectiveness.

!

DO NOT EMPTY PACKET STRAIGHT INTO WATER AS IT WILL CAUSE CLOGGING. Sprinkle and wait for the reaction to work

1,25kg packet: Instructions for use

The 1,25 kg packet is resealable, and produces 600 l (Half a bag = 300 l or 200g per 100 l for fire breaks). This packet is suitable for use on a bakkies’ firefighting unit, with a usual capacity of 600 l of water at a time. (Recommended 1000 l of water for fighting fires).

  1. Unzip packet.
  2. Sprinkle contents into 600 l of water, or half a bag into 300 l of water.
  3. Wait 1 minute.
  4. Stir (best results achieved after 4 minutes).

Also note:

  • Once FIREBLOCK Agri has activated, you cannot make the mix stronger. You need to make a separate mix, and add the latter to the former.
  • If the mix is too thick for your sprayer, you can add water slowly, mixing every time.
  • Do not dilute the mixture too much as it will not have the desired effect.
  • FIREBLOCK Agri is easy to use. Once it has been mixed, spray onto the area that you wish to prevent to burn, or directly onto the fire to extinguish it.
  • Coverage of mix is 12–15 m², depending on how thickly you spray (±300m² area is covered per sachet) and costs approximately 10c per square metre.
  • FIREBLOCK Agri can be mixed and stored, ready for use in a cool place, for up to 12 months.

Additional extras:

FIRE FIGHTING BACK PACKS – these are fantastic for quickly extinguishing a small fire. The back packs have a capacity of 20 l, which is ideal for the contents of one sachet, and a nozzle. These can be ordered through FIREBLOCK.

FIREFIGHTING BAKKIE UNIT – the ideal solution for every farm and small holding owner – fits directly on a bakkie and is easy to use. With its capacity of 600 l, a 1,25 kg packet of FIREBLOCK Agri is ideal for the Bakkie Unit. These units can be ordered through FIREBLOCK.

FIREFIGHTING SPRAYER – this is an add-on to the FIREFIGHTING BAKKIE UNIT – it is a metre-long spray which is ideal for the even spraying of FIREBLOCK when spraying Firebreaks (SEE FIREBREAKS BURNNG VIDEO).
